The Wines of Pauillac
The viticultural capital of the Médoc, the town of Pauillac lends its name to the world-renowned appellation established in 1936. Located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, 50 km north of Bordeaux, Pauillac boasts 18 Classified Growths, including three First Growths out of the five in the 1855 classification. This prestige makes the appellation a global reference for great wines.
Pauillac: An Exceptional Terroir
With 1,213 hectares of vines, representing 7.5% of the Médoc vineyard, this jewel possesses exceptional climatic and geological conditions for producing great wines. Facing the Gironde estuary, the vines benefit from a temperate oceanic climate with mild winters and relatively warm summers. Good sunlight ensures proper grape ripening, while the estuary protects the vines from heatwaves and frost.
Planted on gravelly and sandy-gravelly soils, the vineyards rest on a beautiful gravel hill known as "graves günziennes garonnaises," whose poor soil is the very essence of the vineyard's great richness, benefiting from extremely efficient natural drainage. Pauillac is the favored terroir of Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Merlot. There is also Petit Verdot and Malbec.

The Style of Pauillac Wines
Recognized among the best wines in the world, Pauillac wines are refined and distinguished, combining tannic power and finesse. Powerful in their youth, their red fruit or floral aromas blend over time into a delicate bouquet while maintaining their strength. The aging potential of these wines is exceptional, with a great aging potential ranging from 5 to 25 years or more for some grand crus. The serving temperature should be between 15 and 17˚C.
La robe
The color of Pauillac wines is a beautiful, dense, and deep hue, varying from dark ruby to garnet, including shades of dark red.
Le nez
Powerful, complex, and delicate, these wines possess a rich aromatic palette: red and black fruits (raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant), spicy notes (licorice), vegetal nuances (tobacco), animal or mineral hints (flint), and touches of roasted flavors (cocoa, almond, toasted bread).
La bouche
They are ample, rich, and creamy, underscored by tight and robust tannins.
The Classified Growths of Pauillac
A jewel of the Médoc, the Pauillac appellation includes 18 Classified Growths, including three First Growths out of the five in the 1855 classification:

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868 and a First Growth of Pauillac, Château Lafite Rothschild is undoubtedly the greatest marvel of Bordeaux. This legendary wine is the quintessence of Pauillac and is considered the "first of the first." Originating from an exceptional terroir, these wines are distinguished by their suave bouquet and incomparable delicacy.
Located in the heart of the Médoc, Château Latour is a First Growth classified in 1855 under the Pauillac appellation according to the official classification. Elevated to the pinnacle of Bordeaux's great wines, the estate produces sublime wines that span decades and continue to develop.

Considered one of the greatest wines in the world, Château Mouton Rothschild, located northwest of Bordeaux, is part of the prestigious Pauillac appellation. Classified as a First Growth in 1973, the estate produces excellent red wines that are elegant, powerful, rich in tannins, and have long aging potential. The estate also produces a savory and elegant white wine.
