The village of Monthélie is situated on the balcony between the first relief of the Côte de Beaune and the Hautes-Côtes. Of the 100 hectares planted under the communal appellation, 31 hectares are classified as Premier Crus. Monthélie's vines appear to the south and south-east. The pebbles are made up of Bassian limestone paved with red clay and marl, extending as far as the Coteau de Volnay (Coteau de Volnay) and also in the Auxey-Duresses valley with Argovian limestone and east or west exposure depending on the slopes (between 230 and 370 metres above sea level).
