Dominio de Pingus, Peter Sisseck's estate

Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck founded Dominio de Pingus in 1995 in La Horra, in the heart of Ribera del Duero. "Pingus" is his childhood nickname. The first vintage, 1995, ran to only 325 cases and immediately made the estate one of Spain's benchmarks. The vines have been farmed biodynamically since 2000.

Pingus, Flor de Pingus and PSI

Pingus comes from two tiny vineyards of old bush-trained Tinto Fino, Barroso and San Cristóbal, about 4 hectares in all. Flor de Pingus comes from other vines in La Horra, with a small share of Garnacha in some years. PSI is a separate project launched in 2006 with Pablo Rubio: it blends growers' grapes from across the Ribera to preserve the region's old vines.

FAQ – Dominio de Pingus

Which Dominio de Pingus wine should you choose to discover Peter Sisseck?

PSI is the best introduction to Peter Sisseck's wines at an accessible price. Made from old vines across Ribera del Duero, it showcases the freshness and character of Tinto Fino. For a more ambitious experience, Flor de Pingus offers greater depth and concentration, with a precise expression of the terroirs around La Horra. Finally, Pingus, produced in extremely limited quantities from historic old vines, is the estate's flagship wine, intended for collectors and enthusiasts of exceptional age-worthy wines.

What is the difference between Pingus and Flor de Pingus?

Pingus comes only from the old vines of Barroso and San Cristóbal, about 4 hectares, in pure Tinto Fino. Flor de Pingus comes from other vines in La Horra, sometimes with some Garnacha, and is more approachable earlier. Both are made by Peter Sisseck.

Is PSI the second wine of Pingus?

PSI is not the second wine of Pingus: it is a separate project, made by Peter Sisseck and Pablo Rubio under the name Bodegas y Viñedos Alnardo. It comes from growers' grapes across Ribera del Duero, since the 2007 vintage.

Why is Pingus so rare?

Pingus is rare because its two vineyards cover only about 4 hectares of very old vines, with very low yields. Each vintage amounts to only a few thousand bottles, sold on allocation.
