Clos de los Siete: The Soul of Argentina Elevated by French Winemaking
An exceptional high-altitude terroir and a bold viticultural vision
Located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in the Tuyunan region south of Mendoza, Clos de los Siete is a unique 850-hectare vineyard that thrives at over 1000 meters of altitude. This ambitious project was initiated in the early 2000s by world-renowned oenologist Michel Rolland and six French partners. Their shared goal was to bring Bordeaux winemaking expertise to the fertile lands of Argentina to produce wines of exceptional character and quality.
The vineyard benefits from a dry continental climate with high diurnal temperature variation. Sun-filled days and cool nights help grapes ripen slowly, ensuring a balance between freshness and complexity. The well-drained alluvial soils add minerality and depth, while careful plot-by-plot cultivation ensures precision and consistency across vintages.
Each block of vines, ranging from 1 to 3 hectares, is monitored individually, echoing the approach used in Bordeaux Grands Crus. This parcel management allows for fine-tuned harvests and tailor-made vinification, resulting in expressive wines with strong aging potential.
Powerful yet elegant wines with remarkable complexity
Clos de los Siete is driven by Malbec, Argentina’s flagship grape, and enhanced by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Each grape variety is vinified separately, then blended with precision to create harmonious and expressive wines.
Fermentations are carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by a long maceration and aging in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. The resulting wines reveal rich aromas of black fruit, spices, vanilla, and toasted wood, structured by silky tannins and balanced acidity.
Standout vintages like 2016, 2018, and 2020 showcase Clos de los Siete’s aging potential. While built to cellar for a decade or more, these wines are also approachable young, offering a full-bodied yet elegant tasting experience. They pair beautifully with grilled meats, game, and mature cheeses, and embody the very best of Argentine terroir elevated by French craftsmanship.
