4th Grand Cru Classé Saint-Julien in the Médoc, Château Talbot covers 107 hectares of vines in culture in the municipality of Saint-Julien, appellation out of the ordinary since it does not include less than 11 classified crus. Ideally located on the banks of the Gironde estuary on the alluvial slopes of the Massif Central by the Dordogne and the Pyrenees by the Garonne, the terroir of Château Talbot is exceptional. Château Talbot embodies for many the ideal of Saint Julien, generously bouquet, very stable and safe aging. The Château also produces a Second Wine, Connetable of Chateau Talbot, which as its elder is a classic and elegant wine. Let’s not forget Caillou Blanc of Château Talbot, one of the first white of the Médoc, raised to the Burgundy. The wine is very aromatic, with a lively and nervous personality that can be found throughout the vintages.

the history
On the Saint-Julien plateau, the majestic Château Talbot stands, emerging distinctly from a sea of vines and tall trees in its park.
The history of this vineyard is fascinating, taking its name from the famous Constable Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, a prominent English military leader and governor of Guyenne, who was defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453.
In 1855, during the classification of the Médoc and Graves wines under the reign of Emperor Napoleon III, Château Talbot was honored as the fourth great classified growth of Saint-Julien. After being the property of the Marquis d'Aux for many years, the estate was acquired in 1918 by Désiré Cordier.
The history of the estate has continued as a family saga, with the Cordier family caring for the vineyard from 1918 to the present day.
The appeal of Château Talbot also extended beyond borders, illustrated by the visit of President Lebrun in 1934, which contributed to the reputation of the vineyard and its recognition in the world of wine.
Finally, the attachment to Saint-Julien is underlined by the initiative of Mayor Désiré Cordier, who installed signs at the entrances to the village to welcome visitors and pay tribute to this remarkable wine-growing land.

LA PROPRIÉTÉ
Ranked fourth among the Grands Crus of Saint-Julien in the Médoc, Château Talbot occupies an expanse of 110 hectares of vineyards in one piece, in the heart of the commune of Saint-Julien. This appellation is notable because it has no less than 11 other Grands Crus Classés. Benefiting from an ideal geographical location on the edge of the Gironde estuary, on ridges of alluvial gravel transported from the Massif Central by the Dordogne and from the Pyrenees by the Garonne, the terroir of Château Talbot is truly exceptional.
The red wines of Château Talbot draw their character mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, which covers 66% of the planted surface. This grape variety, emblematic of the Médoc and Saint-Julien, provides a distinctive tannic structure and power. Merlot, representing 30%, adds roundness and softness to the whole.
To perfect this harmony, Petit-Verdot is judiciously used in small quantities, bringing spicy notes and enriching the wine in exceptional vintages. Although capricious, this grape variety is particularly appreciated in Talbot, where Nancy Bignon-Cordier has a particular affection for it.
As for the white wines, the blend is mainly composed of 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon.
At the foundation of every great wine are passionate individuals. The Château Talbot team perfectly embodies this spirit, fully committing throughout the year to faithfully reflect the exceptional Talbot terroir. Under the direction of Nancy Bignon-Cordier, the team, led by Jean-Michel Laporte, is mobilizing with inspiration.
Damien Hostein, head of cultivation, reigns supreme over the vineyard, having intimate knowledge and deep affection for each vine on the estate, with which he has maintained a constant dialogue for many years. In 2007, Jean-Max Drouilhet joined the team as cellar master, bringing his complementary skills to perfect the winemaking process.

THE KNOW-HOW
FROM THE VINE TO THE CELLAR
The harvest at Château Talbot is entirely manual, involving up to 120 pickers. This essential phase in the creation of a great wine is subject to rigorous selections. First, a first selection is made in the vines, followed by a second when the harvest is received.
The grapes, transported in bins, are sorted to keep only the impeccable berries, either by optical sorting or by a densimetric Tribay. This meticulous process, combined with precise plot selection, gives the wines exceptional aromatic purity and great precision.
FROM THE CELLAR TO THE BOTTLES
Inaugurated in 2012, this building ranks among the most imposing and original wine-growing architecture in the Bordeaux region. Spanning 1,500 square meters, it evokes a forest with its concrete trees, reaching up to seven meters high. Each pillar is reminiscent of the shape of a goblet-shaped vine, giving the whole thing a unique look.
In this grandiose cellar, 1,800 barrels rest in the dark, maintained at a constant temperature of 17°C, where they refine the wines for 16 months. The choice of coopers, the duration of barrel aging, as well as the racking schedule, are adapted to the style and specific evolution of each batch, guided by regular tastings of the wines.
The blending of wines is a complex orchestration, taking into account numerous parameters such as the grape varieties, the plots, the age of the vines and the origin of the barrels, new or old.
With the precious help of oenologist Eric Boissenot and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, Nancy and Jean-Paul Bignon, accompanied by their team, tirelessly pursue the quest for authenticity and perfect harmony for Talbot wines.

CHÂTEAU TALBOT
Talbot is undoubtedly one of the most renowned estates in the Médoc. In the hands of the same family for more than a century, this property of more than one hundred hectares is renowned for the consistent quality of its vintages.
Talbot is a champion of longevity, which does not prevent it, even in its very early youth, from being pleasant and round, always marked by silky and suave tannins, very civilized. Talbot has an extroverted nature, he is never withdrawn, and has the courtesy to be in a good mood every day. It is a distinguished wine, with its complex notes of Havana and liquorice, deliciously classic without ever the slightest austerity.
CONNETABLE DE TALBOT
Connétable is one of the first second wines of the Médoc, having been created in the sixties. Over the years, it has benefited from the meticulous care given to the vineyard as well as increasingly rigorous selections.
Like its prestigious elder, it embodies a classic and elegant style, characterized by a clean and well-defined structure, and a persistent and refreshing finish.
CAILLOU BLANC
Georges Cordier, the grandfather of the current owners, was one of the pioneers to reintroduce the cultivation of white vines in the Médoc in the 1930s.
Mainly composed of Sauvignon, with a touch of Sémillon, Caillou blanc is aged in barrels on lees with Burgundian-style stirring. This wine is distinguished by its very aromatic character, offering a lively and dynamic personality that reveals itself from year to year.
