Coulée de Serrant
A Legendary Loire Wine Worth Discovering
Exceptional Terroir and Biodynamic Mastery
Coulée de Serrant is a unique vineyard located on the slopes of Savennières in the Loire Valley. Spanning just seven hectares, this micro-appellation produces one of the most iconic white wines in France. The terroir combines mineral-rich schist, quartz, and volcanic soils with ideal southwest exposure and a temperate oceanic climate with continental influences. These conditions offer an exceptional environment for Chenin Blanc to fully express its depth and character.
Biodynamic farming has been practiced here for decades. This natural, holistic approach excludes synthetic chemicals and follows lunar cycles and plant-based preparations, encouraging deep root systems and healthy, expressive vines. Biodiversity is preserved, and the vineyard thrives in a balanced ecosystem.
Grapes are harvested manually over multiple passes, ensuring perfect ripeness. After gentle pressing, the must ferments using native yeasts in oak barrels without any added sulfur. The wine is aged on lees, gaining texture, aromatic complexity, and the capacity for extraordinary aging.
Sensory Identity and Tasting Guide
Coulée de Serrant presents an intense golden hue. Its nose reveals layered aromas of ripe fruit, wild herbs, white flowers, and flinty minerality. On the palate, it is rich, vibrant, and precise, with a long, saline finish and complex notes of dried fruit, honeycomb, and forest floor that emerge with age.
This wine is best enjoyed at 12–14°C, ideally decanted one to two hours prior to tasting. A tulip-shaped white wine glass enhances its aromas. It pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roasted seabass, lobster, free-range poultry, or aged cheeses like Comté. On its own, it also rewards quiet contemplation due to its profound depth and balance.
Its firm acidity and aromatic density give it extraordinary cellaring potential. The best vintages can age for 20–30 years, evolving into complex wines with tertiary aromas of truffle, beeswax, and citrus peel. Coulée de Serrant is a true collector’s wine, offering beauty and evolution across decades.
Available from 12bouteilles, this Loire Valley jewel is a must-have for wine lovers seeking purity, elegance, and a taste of living history in every glass.
