MAISON BOLLINGER
Fonded in 1829
- CHAMPAGNE -
Champagne House Bollinger is one of the most prestigious champagne houses in the Champagne region of France. It was founded in 1829 in Aÿ, in the Marne region of France, by Hennequin de Villermont, Paul Renaudin and Jacques Bollinger. Since then, the company has earned a worldwide reputation for the exceptional quality of its champagnes. Bollinger is renowned for its commitment to traditional production methods, including the use of a significant proportion of reserve wines, giving its cuvées a unique depth and complexity. The Bollinger family has remained involved in the running of the business, preserving the tradition and excellence of the house over the generations. From the Special Cuvée, the house's signature blend of density and subtlety, to the elegance and uniqueness of the legendary Cuvée R.D., Bollinger has been producing exceptional Champagnes for nearly 200 years, recognised as some of the world's finest.

MAISON BOLLINGER,
THE HISTORY
Since it was founded in 1829, Maison Bollinger has continued the tradition of making exceptional wines, characterised by a powerful, refined and complex style. The expression of fruity aromas unfolds fully in every dimension of their cuvées, creating remarkable champagnes.
This unique flavour stems from a marked preference for the elegance of Pinot Noir, through an exceptional vineyard and a craftsmanship preciously handed down since 1829. Guided by the vision of Madame Bollinger, whose legendary energy still resonates in the estate today, Champagne Bollinger is above all the fruit of a sharing of strong emotions between wine enthusiasts.
In 1941, when her husband died without issue, this young widow of 42 courageously took up the reins, ensuring the continuity of the House.
She took over the management of the company in 1941, in the midst of the war and the hardships of the Occupation. These difficult times were characterised by a shortage of the equipment and labour needed to grow vines and make champagne.
In 1967, the company introduced a champagne made in-house: R.D. - "Récemment Dégorgé". This innovative creation was distinguished by its prolonged ageing on the lees for many years, and was disgorged just a few months before it went on sale. From the moment it was launched, this champagne was a great success.
In 1994, Ghislain de Montgolfier, the founder's great-grandson, took over the running of the company. In 2008, although still under the control of the family, the management of Bollinger was entrusted to Jérôme Philipon. The house has successfully developed its partnership with the James Bond franchise, becoming the emblematic champagne associated with the world of the secret agent.

MAISON BOLLINGER,
THE VINEYARD
Bollinger has built its vineyards in the heart of the most prestigious terroirs in the Champagne region. The House's 179 hectares of vines, mostly classified as Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, are devotedly tended by teams of winemakers on 7 separate estates: Aÿ, Avenay, Tauxières, Louvois and Verzenay for Pinot Noir around the Montagne de Reims, Cuis for Chardonnay in the Côte des Blancs, and Champvoisy for Meunier in the Marne Valley.
Bollinger stands out in Champagne as one of the few houses to grow most of the grapes used in its blends itself.
One of Bollinger's unique features is the preservation of two plots of land, Clos Saint-Jacques and Clos des Chaudes Terres in Aÿ, which were miraculously spared by phylloxera. These vines, known as "franches de pied", are meticulously cared for and cultivated by hand using the ancient method of provignage. The aim of this approach is to protect this exceptional heritage, from which emerges the rare cuvée Vieilles Vignes Françaises.
MAISON BOLLINGER,
WINEMAKING
VINIFICATION UNDER WOOD
Bollinger is considered to be the last remaining cooperage in Champagne. Until the early 20th century, wine was invariably aged in wooden containers. Gradually phased out in favour of stainless steel vats, renowned for their resistance and cost-effectiveness, oak barrels are now making a comeback in Champagne cellars.
Stainless steel has the advantage of preserving all the personality of a wine thanks to its material and impeccable tightness. Wood, on the other hand, adopts a different philosophy based on exchange. Oak, as a living, slightly porous material, plays an essential role in oxygenating wines.
Light, constant oxygenation softens the tannins and controls the acidity of the wine. Naturally, the aromatic complexity of the champagne is more elaborate than vinification in stainless steel va
"We only use second-hand barrels from Burgundy, where they have already vinified Chardonnays, so we avoid the woody taste of new barrels".
Gaël Chaunut - Copper of Champagne Bollinger
Since 1829, Champagne Bollinger has favoured the vinification of its best vintages in oak barrels, a practice it continues to preserve. With 4,000 barrels, some of which are over a hundred years old, Champagne Bollinger has the largest stock of barrels in Champagne, and takes great care of this treasure to ensure its longevity. Refusing to use new barrels that could alter the aromas, each barrel comes from Burgundy, where it has already been used.

MAISON BOLLINGER,
THE GREAT WINEs
Champagne Bollinger La Grande Année, made exclusively from grapes classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, La Grande Année represents the essence of the artisanal skills preserved by the House of Bollinger for generations. Vinified in oak casks, aged under cork and stirred by hand, this champagne has been waiting for almost 10 years in the house's chalk cellars. After a long ageing period on the lees, each bottle of La Grande Année is still stirred and disgorged by hand.
Champagne Bollinger R.D. is Madame Bollinger's innovative idea of selecting an old vintage, recently disgorged and blended as an Extra Brut. This recent disgorgement ensures the wine's exceptional freshness. This bold approach offers the world the chance to savour a truly singular tasting experience. This exceptional cuvée will be named Bollinger R.D., for "Récemment Dégorgé".
Champagne Bollinger Spécial Cuvée is the result of a meticulous blending of several vintages, with particular emphasis on the reserve wines that give it its unique structure, making it a benchmark of the Bollinger style. Its remarkable aromatic complexity reveals aromas of ripe fruit and spices, with hints of roasted apple, compote and peach.
