Château Canon

1st Grand Cru Classé B from Saint Emilion, Château Canon, owned by the Wertheimer family (Chanel house) since 1996 is located on exceptional soil. Covering an area of 34 hectares in one piece at the gateway to the village of Saint Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like its neighbor Château Clos Fourtet, the chateaux of Chateau Canon are located under the vineyards in cellars. The grape varieties are 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc with 25 year old vines. In 2011, Château Canon bought Château Matras and began using the 12 hectares of additional vines for the production of the second wine, Clos Canon. The wines of Château Canon have long been very below the level of a 1st Classified Growth but since the arrival of Wertheirmer huge works have been undertaken. The success is at the rendezvous, Château Canon was confirmed 1st Grand Cru Classé at the 2012 ranking.
