The story of the Bodega Contador begins in 1996 when Benjamin Romeo, winemaker and winemaker decides to raise his own wine in the garage of his father and under the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in the region of Rioja. In 1996, he made his first vintage of the “Cueva Del Contador“ and bought several vineyards to realize his project to become a “bodeguero“, a wine producer. In the following years, he produces wines on a small scale and in 1999 he designs the first vintage of “Contador“, his flagship wine. In 2000, in view of the favorable effects of his wines by the market and the specialized press, he devotes full time to wine production. Robert Parker, a famous North American critic, awarded a 100/100 rating to the 2004 and 2005 Contador vintages. This recognition has considerably strengthened the prestige of the label internationally. The new bodega was opened in 2008 and is located at the foot of the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the center of the different vineyards of the Bodega Contador. Benjamin Romeo is passionate about the acquisition of vineyards and plots adapted to the vine culture. Its estate has more than 50 parcels with different soils, microclimates, aspects, altitudes and varieties of varietals which facilitates the production of wines of great complexity. The wines are kept in barrels for 18 to 20 months where any movement of the wine takes into account the lunar cycles. Corks used are cork from different Spanish saws (Castellà³n, Toledo, Girona, etc ...). Benjamin Romeo personally chose which oaks will be used for Bodega Contador bottles. The vines are worked with biological and sustainable respect, from the organic matter for the fertilization of the ground, to the treatment of the vine which is carried out only when it is necessary and without waste. The harvest is done entirely by hand in small boxes of 14 kg. After harvest, the grapes are transported to the winery in a maximum of half an hour to prevent oxidation. Among the great wines of the Bodega Contrador, we love the intense aromas of Predicador 2014, the complex and rich nose of La Cueva Del Contador 2014, and we have fallen for the elegance of the legendary 2010 Contador Contestador. Great wines of exception to taste or keep a few years.
