the history of château Montus & château bouscassé
It all began in the 1970s, when Alain Brumont, an ambitious young winemaker, inherited some family vineyards in Maumusson-Laguian, near Madiran. At that time, the Madiran region was little-known, and the wines produced there were often rustic and unappreciated. However, Alain Brumont was convinced of the region's potential to produce high-quality wines.
He set about modernizing viticulture and oenology techniques in the Madiran region. He introduced more rigorous growing methods and began using French oak barrels to age his wines. Thanks to his hard work and passion for wine, Alain Brumont succeeded in producing wines that attracted the attention of connoisseurs and critics alike.
In 1980, Alain Brumont acquired Château Montus, a historic wine estate located on the slopes of Maumusson-Laguian. He immediately undertook major investments to modernize the facilities and winemaking equipment. Under his leadership, Château Montus became one of Madiran's most prestigious estates, producing powerful, concentrated red wines from the local Tannat grape variety.
A few years later, in 1990, Alain Brumont bought Château Bouscassé, another wine estate located close to Montus. With Bouscassé, Brumont also succeeded in producing wines of exceptional quality, using mainly the Tannat grape, but also other local varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
The wines of Château Montus and Château Bouscassé have received numerous awards and distinctions over the years, contributing to Alain Brumont's reputation as an exceptional winemaker. His wines are renowned for their concentration, tannic structure and ability to age well.
Today, Château Montus and Château Bouscassé continue to set the standard for Madiran wines. Alain Brumont has also extended his winemaking activities to other regions of southwestern France, but Montus and Bouscassé remain the jewels in his crown, embodying the excellence of Madiran wines.

Château Montus & château bouscassé , the properties
The Brumont vineyards include two châteaux: Château Montus and Château Bouscassé, both located in the Madiran appellation.
At Château Montus, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional terroir in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Clay-limestone soils combined with variations in altitude create ideal conditions for growing local grape varieties such as Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The oceanic influence combined with the cool winds blowing down from the mountains enable the grapes to ripen slowly and progressively, giving Château Montus wines a deep structure, a rich aromatic palette and a beautiful freshness.
As for Château Bouscassé, it is located in the Madiran hills, offering a distinctive terroir. Clay-limestone soils combined with sunny exposure and oceanic and Pyrenean climatic influences give the grapes optimal ripeness. Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, used in the production of red wines, express all their power and finesse here. White grape varieties such as Petit Courbu, Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng also find their place in this terroir, producing elegant, refreshing white wines.
The unique terroirs of these two châteaux enable us to grow grapes of the highest quality, expressing all the richness and aromatic complexity of the Madiran appellation. They thus contribute to the international renown and recognition of the wines produced by Château Montus and Château Bouscassé.

Château Montus and Château Bouscassé aim to preserve aromatic freshness and tannic precision to produce wines that last over time, contributing to the quality and renown of their wines.
Vinification is carried out with precision: juices are tasted before harvesting to determine their balance and to establish a classification of terroirs and possible blends between plots. The grapes are harvested by hand, and filled by gravity into vats with cold maceration. Fermentation is slow, with punching of the cap and pumping over during the first phase to obtain the finesse and elegance of the tannins.
According to Alain Brumont, the recipe for a great wine brings together three important things: singular terroirs, autochthonous grape varieties and long ageing to bring modernity to the grape varieties. Since 2018, ageing lasts between 36 and 60 months in oak barrels, depending on the vintage. From harvest to bottling, Alain Brumont is assisted by a microbiologist. Bottling takes place in the 3rd or 5th year, depending on the vintage, and storage lasts between 4 and 10 years, in order to monitor the quality of the wines throughout.

the Cuvées of châteaux montus & Bouscassé
Château Montus and Château Bouscassé offer a selection of remarkable cuvées, reflecting the excellence of their terroir and expertise.
Château Montus offers 2 cuvées: The Classics, symbols of excellence with Montus Blanc Sec and Montus Rouge. Then the 100% Tannat with Montus Prestige, the ambassador of Tannat, Montus XL, in memory of the elders, and La Tyre, an ideal parcel for legendary wines.
Château Bouscassé offers 4 cuvées: The classic with Les Jardins Philosophiques in white, Bouscassé in red and Le Blanc d'Alain Brumont. The parcellaires with Argile Rouge and Menhir, Le 100% Tannat Vieilles Vignes.
The Torus range also includes 4 white wines in the Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh and Côtes de Gascogne appellations and 2 red wines in the Madiran and Côtes de Gascogne appellations.
