Château Thivin, elegance and authenticity from the slopes of Mont Brouilly
A historic family estate and time-honored winemaking
Château Thivin is one of the oldest and most respected estates in the Beaujolais region, rooted on the volcanic slopes of Mont Brouilly. The estate’s history dates back to the 14th century, but it was in 1877 that the Geoffray family acquired the property and shaped its modern identity. Today, Claude-Edouard Geoffray represents the sixth generation at the helm, upholding a legacy built on meticulous viticulture and a deep respect for tradition and nature.
The vineyards enjoy a privileged location on soils of blue granite and schist, giving the wines remarkable minerality and structure. The estate's signature varietal, Gamay noir à jus blanc, reveals its full aromatic potential here, while a limited amount of Chardonnay is used to produce a rare, refreshing Beaujolais Blanc. Sustainable practices are central to the estate's philosophy, with careful attention to biodiversity, soil health, and natural balances.
Winemaking at Château Thivin combines precision with tradition. Grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring only the ripest and healthiest fruit is used. Whole-cluster fermentation, a signature method in the region, allows for gentle extraction of tannins and preservation of vibrant fruit flavors. Wines are aged in large oak foudres, which provide complexity without overwhelming the freshness and character of the fruit. This artisanal approach results in wines that are structured, expressive, and deeply rooted in their terroir.
Iconic cuvées and refined food pairings
Among the estate’s standout wines, Côte de Brouilly "Les Sept Vignes" showcases the power and diversity of the vineyard’s parcels. "La Chapelle", grown near a hilltop chapel, offers elegance, floral finesse, and minerality. "Reverdon", from the Brouilly appellation, is known for its roundness and red fruit aromas, while the Beaujolais Blanc offers refreshing citrus and white fruit notes with a mineral backbone.
These wines lend themselves to a wide range of gourmet pairings. The reds, with their structure and finesse, pair beautifully with grilled meats, roast lamb, duck breast, or aged cheeses. The more delicate "La Chapelle" matches roasted poultry or festive dishes, while the crisp Beaujolais Blanc is ideal with shellfish, grilled fish, or fresh goat cheese. Whether for an intimate dinner or a special occasion, each bottle invites a unique sensory experience.
Wines from Château Thivin are now available online at 12bouteilles.com, offering wine lovers the chance to enjoy these authentic cuvées from the comfort of home.
