Magnum - E.Guigal : Château d'Ampuis Côte Rôtie 2013

Rhone Valley - Côte-Rôtie - Red Wine -

A great Côte Rôtie by E.Guigal estate, here in a Magnum format (1.5 liter). Château d'Ampuis is a historic estate in the Côte Rôtie appellation.

This 2013 Château d'Ampuis comes from a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier from old vines planted in the 16th century.

The dress of this Côte Rôtie 2013 presents a dark and deep color with mauve reflections. Intense and expressive, the nose expresses aromas of black fruits and spices with delicate woody notes. The nose is dense, expressive and intense. On the palate, it is a tannic and racy wine. The palate reveals aromas of prunes, blackberries and vanilla. A powerful, concentrated and extremely well structured red wine.

The advice of 12bouteilles: A good aging wine with a shelf life of around 20 years. It goes well with game, red meats and cheeses. Operating temperature between 16 ° C and 18 ° C.

As expected, the 2013 Cote Rotie Château d’Ampuis is a more austere, firm and structured wine than either the 2011 or 2012, yet I still feel it’s a hidden gem in the vintage given its fabulous concentration and sweet tannin. Its inky purple color is followed by serious notes of cassis, graphite, crushed rock and cracked pepper. Medium to full-bodied, with fabulous purity, high, yet integrated acidity and a big finish, it will need 7-8 years of cellaring, but will handsomely reward patient consumers.Jeb Dunnuck 94-96/100
