The Ribera del Duero appellation is what we call in Spain an DO (Dennomicacion de Origen) and which corresponds to a French AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée). The vineyards of this appellation are located in the region of Castilla y Leon and especially in the high Douro Valley around the cities of Burgos, Valladolid and Segovia. It is a region with a long tradition of vines, with unique wines and renowned producers from around the world. Among these we find for example the area of Bodega Aalto, Bodegas Casajus or Bodegas Arrocal! The vast majority of the Ribera del Duero territory is located on flat plateaus between 700 and 900 meters above sea level, the climate is both continental and Mediterranean, rainfall is very moderate and soils have few resources , forcing the vine to dive deeply. The thermal amplitude is also an important factor, the temperatures can be -20 ° in winter and 40 ° in summer.
The grapes found most in this region are Tinto Fino, Grenache Noir and Albilo, but other varieties that we know well in France are also present such as Malbec, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. . The wines of the denomination of origin Ribera del Duero are therefore very often red and classified in four distinct categories according to their breeding: Joven, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
This region produces some of the best Spanish wines, of which the most famous and most famous of them are Pingus from Pingus’ Bodega Domino and others are not left out and also proves the high quality of the appellation such as Aaltos de la Bodega of the same name or the wines of Bodega Vega Sicilia that are close to the work of art!
