Nestled in the heart of the Langhe hills, the Luigi Pira estate has become a benchmark for authentic and elegant Barolo. Founded in the 1950s in the village of Serralunga d’Alba, the estate spans just ten hectares, yet boasts some of the most prestigious vineyards of the region: Marenca, Margheria, and Vignarionda. These exceptional sites are known for producing powerful, structured wines with remarkable aging potential.
The Pira family meticulously tends their vines with respect for tradition and the land. Manual harvesting, long maceration during fermentation, and slow aging in oak barrels form the backbone of their artisanal approach. Combined with a modern technical precision, this philosophy brings out the full character of the Nebbiolo grape: firm tannins, intense aromatics, and an elegant, mineral-driven structure.
Luigi Pira's Barolos are celebrated for their purity and complexity. They reveal deep aromas of black cherry, dried rose, licorice, and leather, supported by fresh acidity and refined tannins. In addition to these age-worthy wines, the estate produces a fresh and fruity Dolcetto d’Alba, ideal for more casual enjoyment.
Today, Luigi Pira wines are internationally recognized and highly sought after by both enthusiasts and collectors. Thanks to their consistent quality and accessible pricing, they offer outstanding value in the world of fine Italian wine. Barolos from Vignarionda and Margheria are especially prized for their elegance and longevity, often aging gracefully for over 25 years.
To enjoy these wines at their best, decanting the Barolos for at least two hours is recommended, serving them at 16–18 °C. The Dolcetto, lighter and fruitier, is delightful slightly chilled around 14 °C. Barolos pair beautifully with game, red meat, or aged cheeses, while Dolcetto is perfect with charcuterie or pasta-based dishes.
