In 2012, Château Fombrauge was promoted Grand Cru Classé of Saint Emilion, rewarding the efforts of the owner Bernard Magrez. Covering an area of 58 hectares of vineyards, located on the slopes of Saint Emilion, this beautiful 17th century Chartreuse was originally a cloister of Chartreux. Soils are varied which gives a great complexity to the wines composed of a 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Aging for 18 months, 45% in new barrels, 45% in barrels of a wine, 10% in new-generation concrete vats. Château Fombrauge also produces a white wine, Bordeaux appellation. The Château’s wines are expressive, with aromas of red, blackcurrant and cherry fruit. It is a supple wine, round and slightly tannic.
