The Pinot Gris grape variety is a bit of a gray grape variety, mutated from the original Pinot Noir from Burgundy. The name comes from the color of the dresses of the monks of the region who were the first to cultivate it. It arrives and begins to be used in Alsace wines as early as the 17th century. It is a noble grape, it presents bunches with small berries of very varied colors, from pink to blue gray. Pinot Gris is a grape variety perfectly adapted to the Alsatian region, the continental climate is perfectly adapted to it, it resists the cold of the winter and the spring frosts. The dry, sunny summers and dry Alsatian limestone are perfect for its development and ripening. Pinot Gris is also very suitable for late harvest. The wines from this grape are unique, whether dry or soft, they can be distinguished by a great aromatic complexity of white fruits, honey, vanilla and cinnamon. These wines are of great finesse.
