Château Charmail: A Standout Estate in the Haut-Médoc

A historic château with exceptional terroir

Located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne on Bordeaux's Left Bank, Château Charmail enjoys a privileged setting along the Garonne River. This proximity creates a beneficial microclimate that shields vines from frost and promotes optimal grape ripening. The estate's gravel soils further enhance drainage and vine health, enabling the production of balanced, aromatic, and age-worthy wines typical of the Haut-Médoc’s finest crus.

The estate's history is defined by vision and dedication. In the 1980s, Roger Sèze revitalized the château and its cellars, setting the stage for future success. In 2008, Bernard d’Halluin took over, modernizing facilities and elevating quality to new heights. Today, Château Charmail is recognized as a benchmark Cru Bourgeois, consistently delivering wines that blend accessibility, elegance, and aging potential.

The 30-hectare vineyard is planted with a carefully balanced mix of 48% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. This composition allows for nuanced, layered wines: Merlot adds roundness and red fruit aromas, Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and longevity, Cabernet Franc offers floral and spicy notes, and Petit Verdot deepens color and complexity.

Château Charmail wines stand out for their expressive nose, silky texture, and remarkable balance. They offer immediate pleasure with vibrant blackberry, cassis, and floral notes, while their fine tannins and freshness provide longevity for cellaring.
