The Combe Pilate 2023 Syrah from Maison M. Chapoutier is an emblematic cuvée of the estate’s experimental approach, crafted from the “La Combe Pilate” parcel located on the Isère hillsides near Chanas. Planted on clay-limestone soils, the vines benefit from a cool climate that lends the Syrah a distinctive and elegant expression. True to Michel Chapoutier’s philosophy, this wine is farmed biodynamically and vinified with great respect for both fruit and terroir.
With this cuvée, Maison Chapoutier once again demonstrates its ability to reveal the diversity of terroirs and to craft characterful wines that combine modernity, precision, and authenticity.
Our tasting of the 2023 Vintage :
Appearance: Deep ruby red with bright violet highlights, reflecting the youth and vitality of the vintage.
Nose: Intense and expressive bouquet, offering aromas of dark fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) complemented by the classic spicy notes of Syrah (black pepper, licorice). Floral hints of violet and a subtle smoky touch add aromatic complexity.
Palate: Fresh and lively on the attack, the mid-palate reveals a supple, balanced texture with fine, well-integrated tannins. The Syrah here shows pure, crunchy fruit supported by a mineral backbone and a vibrant acidity that bring depth and length. The finish is long and elegant, lingering on fruit and spice with a subtle saline touch.
It is a gourmet wine, an excellent value for money pleasure.
The advice of 12bouteilles: To serve fresh around 16 ° C, the Combe Pilate 2023 can be enjoyed now for its aromatic brightness and generosity, but it will also evolve gracefully over the next 4 to 6 years. At the table, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, duck breast, flavorful Mediterranean dishes, or aged cheeses.
