In this 2023 vintage, the Menetou‐Salon Expression Rouge from Domaine Jean Teiller stands out as one of the finest expressions of the AOP Menetou‐Salon, a reflection of an exceptional terroir shaped by deep clay‐limestone soils. Here is the tasting we conducted:
The Appearance: an intense and brilliant cherry red, with luminous reflections.
The Nose: rich and expressive, unveiling aromas of small red fruits – strawberry, blackberry – enhanced by subtle spicy notes.
The Palate: supple and fleshy, endowed with a beautiful structure, fine tannins, and great persistence.
This 2023 vintage of Menetou‐Salon Expression Rouge is made from Pinot Noir grapes, grown on old vineyards – including Clos des Treilles, planted over 55 years ago – on an authentic terroir. The harvest, carried out manually around mid‐September, is followed by a cold pre‐fermentative maceration of 4 to 6 days, enriched with pump‐overs and some punch‐downs to optimize aroma extraction. Alcoholic fermentation is performed using indigenous yeasts, followed by a maceration of about twenty days, racking without pumping, and then a controlled malolactic fermentation. An aging period of at least 6 months (95% in tanks, 5% in barrels) preserves the authenticity of the Pinot Noir with finesse, before careful bottling starting in April.
