Mas de la Séranne : Antonin et Louis 2023

Languedoc - AOP Terrasses du Larzac - Red Wine -

Antonin et Louis, the flagship of Mas de la Séranne

Settled in Aniane since 1998, Jean-Pierre and Isabelle Venture have made Mas de la Séranne one of the benchmark estates of the Terrasses du Larzac, farmed under certified organic agriculture. Antonin et Louis bears the first names of their winegrowing ancestors, a great-uncle and a grandfather. The Syrah and Mourvèdre come from old terraces of the Hérault, the Carignan from very poor terraces; all these clay-limestone soils are strewn with rounded pebbles, for yields of just 25 hl/ha.

2023: a sunny vintage, kept fresh by the Larzac

2023 was a hot, dry year in Languedoc, with yields reduced by the lack of water. At the foot of the Larzac, cool nights preserved the balance of the grapes. The 2023 drops the Morrastel used in 2022: the blend tightens to 50% Syrah, 25% Mourvèdre and 25% Carignan. It is aged for 13 months in Allier and Centre oak barrels of one to three wines.

Tasting notes

Deep purple with violet glints. A smoky, characterful nose of tapenade, liquorice, blackcurrant and cocoa bean. The palate is fleshy and elegant, with supple, harmonious tannins. The long finish keeps a minty freshness that balances the power of the vintage.

The 12bouteilles recommendation

Antonin et Louis 2023 is already enjoyable after an hour in a decanter, but it will gain harmony from 2026 and keep easily until 2033. Serve at 16-17°C with vine-grilled rib of beef, leg of lamb or game.

FAQ – Antonin et Louis 2023, Mas de la Séranne

How good is the 2023 vintage of Antonin et Louis?

Antonin et Louis 2023 won 97/100 and a Platinum medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, one of only three Platinum medals awarded to Languedoc reds that year. From a hot, dry vintage, it keeps a fresh, minty finish thanks to the cool nights of the Terrasses du Larzac.

When should you drink Antonin et Louis 2023?

Antonin et Louis 2023 is best enjoyed from 2026 to 2033. Opened now, it needs an hour in a decanter to soften. Serve at 16-17°C.

Antonin et Louis 2023 or 2022: which vintage to choose?

Both are warm vintages, but with different blends. The 2022 (€25) includes 20% Morrastel, while the 2023 focuses on Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. The 2022, a year older, is a little more open; the denser 2023 earned the cuvée's highest award, 97/100 at the Decanter World Wine Awards, against 95/100 for the 2022.

Which wine goes with grilled rib of beef?

Grilled rib of beef calls for a fleshy red with supple tannins and a fresh finish, able to match the fat and smoky notes of the grill. A Languedoc Syrah-Mourvèdre blend such as Antonin et Louis 2023 is ideal. Serve at 16-17°C.

Is a 14.5% wine necessarily heavy?

No. A sense of heaviness depends on the balance between alcohol, acidity and tannin, not on alcohol alone. On the Terrasses du Larzac, wide day-night temperature swings preserve freshness in the grapes: Antonin et Louis 2023 finishes on a minty note, without heat.

What is the price of Antonin et Louis 2023?

Antonin et Louis 2023 is available at €XX.XX per 75 cl bottle on 12bouteilles, price as of October 2026. The wine is in stock and ships within 72 hours. Free delivery from €300 in France and from €750 elsewhere in Europe.
