Pouilly Fuissé 2024 - Maison Trenel

Burgundy - Pouilly Fuissé - White Wine -

Maison Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 is a Mâconnais Chardonnay combining generous texture with freshness and minerality. Sourced from limestone and marl-limestone slopes at around 450 metres above sea level, it displays aromas of peach, lemon and green apple complemented by white flowers and delicate buttery nuances. Fermentation in both stainless steel and oak brings additional texture without masking the wine's natural freshness.

Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024: tasting notes

Colour: bright and luminous gold.
Nose: expressive and precise, combining peach, lemon and Granny Smith apple with more delicate jasmine and acacia notes. Subtle mineral and buttery nuances emerge with air.
Palate: elegant and smooth, with generous texture balanced by excellent freshness. Acidity and minerality bring definition and energy, leading into a harmonious and persistent finish.

Chardonnay from the slopes of the Mâconnais

This Pouilly-Fuissé is made exclusively from Chardonnay. The vines grow on limestone and marl-limestone formations, on moderately sloping south-facing vineyards at around 450 metres above sea level. The combination of limestone soils and altitude helps preserve the freshness required to balance Chardonnay's natural richness.

Native-yeast fermentation and oak influence

Following light settling, fermentation takes place with native yeasts at controlled temperatures in both stainless-steel vats and new and older oak barrels. Full malolactic fermentation follows. Oak brings texture and subtle buttery nuances while allowing the fruit and mineral character of the wine to remain clearly defined.

The Trénel style in Pouilly-Fuissé

Founded in Charnay-lès-Mâcon in 1928 and part of M. Chapoutier since 2015, Maison Trénel focuses on precise expressions of the different Mâconnais terroirs. This Pouilly-Fuissé offers greater breadth and structure than the house's regional Chardonnays while retaining an approachable, balanced interpretation of the appellation.

Food pairing, serving and cellaring

Serve Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 at 10-12°C. Its combination of freshness and texture makes it an excellent partner for curried prawns, creamy poultry dishes, veal blanquette, fish in sauce or Bresse chicken with morel mushrooms. Maison Trénel gives the wine a cellaring potential of 5 to 10 years.

12bouteilles recommendation

A Pouilly-Fuissé offering greater texture than a purely stainless-steel Chardonnay without becoming excessively oaky. The 2024 can already be enjoyed for its fruit and freshness, although a few years in bottle will allow its mineral, floral and buttery nuances to integrate further. At the table, try it with creamy poultry or fish served with a moderately rich sauce.

FAQ – Maison Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024

Is Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 oaked?

Yes, although oak is not the dominant feature of the wine. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless-steel vats and new and older oak barrels. Oak contributes texture and subtle buttery nuances, while acidity and minerality maintain a fresh, balanced profile.

What is the difference between Maison Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran?

Both are Mâconnais Chardonnays, but Pouilly-Fuissé generally offers greater breadth, structure and ageing potential. Trénel's Saint-Véran provides a more direct and approachable expression of Chardonnay, while this Pouilly-Fuissé includes barrel fermentation and is particularly well suited to richer food.

What is the difference between this wine and Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru Au Vignerais?

The classic Pouilly-Fuissé offers a broader interpretation of the appellation. Au Vignerais comes from an officially classified Premier Cru climat with stony clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxides. It is matured entirely in French oak barrels for 10 to 12 months and aims for greater depth and complexity, while the classic Pouilly-Fuissé is more immediately approachable.

Can Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 be enjoyed now?

Yes. Its fruit, freshness and balance make it enjoyable today. It nevertheless has sufficient texture and acidity to develop positively in bottle, and a few years of ageing will allow its oak-derived nuances to become more fully integrated.

How long can Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 be cellared?

Maison Trénel gives this wine a cellaring potential of 5 to 10 years. Drink it during the earlier part of this window for greater fruit and freshness, or cellar it longer if you prefer a more developed and complex expression of Chardonnay.

Should Trénel Pouilly-Fuissé 2024 be decanted?

Decanting is not essential. For a young bottle, however, opening it 20 to 30 minutes before serving can help its aromas emerge. Use reasonably generous wine glasses and avoid serving it too cold, as low temperatures would suppress its texture and floral character.
