Krug Grande Cuvée 167 edition
Krug Grande Cuvée 167 edition is an iconic signature of Krug!
Since 1843, this Champagne is honoring the dream of Joseph Krug, founder of the house. A passionate and perfectionist man who sought to offer his customers a champagne of great richness and fine elegance; a perfect champagne, regardless of climatic hazards. Thus, every year, the house pays tribute to its founder with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne Krug.
This 167 edition of the Grande Cuvée is the result of a blend of 191 wines from 13 different years between 1995 and 2011. Each glass is the result of about 20 years of expertise. The final composition includes 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 17% Pinot Meunier. This bottle was then rested about 7 years in the Krug cellars, thus gaining expression and elegance.
Krug Grande Cuvée 167ème edition presents fine bubbles and delicate aromas of brioche, almonds and hazelnuts on a pastry note and a lemony finish.
The advice of 12bouteilles:
We advise you to serve Krug Champagnes at a temperature between 9 and 12°C to fully reveal their richness. This great wine can match with a multitude of dishes, the house recommends to enjoy it on a turbot with truffle, grilled shrimp, a jabugo of bellota, mashed artichoke. It can be tasted now, or kept in the cellar, away from the light.
Wine Advocate-Parker : 95/100
Making its debut this year is Krug's NV Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition, a beautiful wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, peach and waxy citrus rind, complemented by complex notes of freshly baked bread, walnuts and smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and muscular but incisive, with a deep and concentrated core, a pinpoint mousse and a long, complex finish. Built around the 2011 vintage, the wine includes reserve wines dating back to 1995 and was disgorged in the winter of 2017-2018.
