In this Beaune 1er Cru cuvée, the Clos des Mouches Rouge 2022 from the Maison Joseph Drouhin delivers a brilliant and refined expression of a great Pinot Noir from Burgundy, sourced from one of the region’s most iconic Premier Cru vineyards. Here is our tasting note:
Appearance: deep ruby red, luminous and vibrant.
Nose: youthful and intense, dominated by blackberry, morello cherry, and raspberry. With age, it evolves into smoky notes, licorice, tobacco, undergrowth, and earthy tones.
Palate: bold yet elegant, with firm but silky tannins. The texture is full and generous, balanced by a vibrant freshness and a long, noble finish.
This legendary Premier Cru is made from Pinot Noir grown in the largest parcel of Clos des Mouches, ideally situated on an east/southeast-facing mid-slope. The light, limestone-rich soil lends the wine both finesse and complexity. Grapes are harvested by hand in openwork crates with careful sorting. Depending on the vintage, 20% to 50% of whole clusters are retained. Fermentation and maceration last 2 to 3 weeks in open-top vats with indigenous yeasts, punch-downs, and pump-overs. After vertical pressing, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels (25% new).
Vintage 2022: rich color, complex nose with blackberry, blackcurrant, and violet. The palate offers supple tannins with notes of spice and a fresh, elegant finish. A noble, age-worthy wine that already shows remarkable finesse.
12bouteilles' Tip: Serve at 16°C. Perfect with veal chop in morel sauce, tournedos Rossini, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 25 years.
