Gérard Bertrand reveals the history of the great terroirs of the South of France.
On returning from the conquests in 1189, three knights in love with Princess Bertrade, learning of her disappearance, decided to become hermits and to light a fire every year to celebrate the beauty on the Pic Saint Loup.
In this 2023 vintage, Héritage "An 1189" Pic Saint Loup is a beautiful wine made from a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache produced by Gérard Bertrand, once again demonstrating his remarkable mastery of the work: selection of the best plots, manual harvesting, double sorting in the vineyard and cellar, and barrel aging of one-third of the harvest during 9 months.
Here is our tasting of the 2023 vintage.
Color: Deep ruby red with mahogany highlights.
The Nose is powerful, marked by very ripe black fruits (blackberry, black cherry, plum), and cocoa and vanilla.
The palate is opulent and concentrated, with velvety tannins. We find these aromas of black fruits. The balance is perfect and offers a beautiful length on the finish.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A top-tier wine from Languedoc, ideally opened 1 hour before serving to allow its aromatic complexity to fully unfold. Serve at 18°C with roasted red meats, poultry in sauce, or aged cheeses. It has an aging potential of at least a decade.
