PSI 2022 by Dominio de Pingus is a Ribera del Duero created by Peter Sisseck with a different purpose from Pingus and Flor de Pingus: preserving old vines farmed by local growers while producing a more accessible, fresh and immediately expressive interpretation of Tinto Fino. Sourced from hundreds of small plots and complemented by a small proportion of Garnacha, the 2022 combines red and dark fruit, flowers, aromatic herbs and spice with a juicy palate and remarkably fine tannins.
Colour: deep, bright cherry red with youthful highlights.
Nose: expressive and floral, showing strawberry, raspberry and dark fruit alongside orange peel, aromatic herbs, liquorice and subtle spice.
Palate: supple and precise, with ripe fruit but no sense of heaviness. The tannins are fine, the texture juicy and the oak discreet. Impressive freshness for such a warm vintage carries the wine through a savoury, aromatic finish.
PSI 2022 is made predominantly from Tinto Fino, the local name for Tempranillo, complemented by approximately 8% Garnacha. The 2022 selection encompasses around 700 old-vine plots throughout Ribera del Duero. This fragmented vineyard base lies at the heart of the project: Peter Sisseck works with local growers to preserve the region's heritage vines rather than seeking to express a single vineyard.
2022 was particularly hot and dry in Ribera del Duero, resulting in an early harvest. Yet PSI avoids overripeness: rigorous fruit selection preserves a floral character, controlled ripeness and genuine freshness. Wine Advocate specifically highlights the progress made in vineyard selection and the precision achieved in this vintage.
Vinification places considerable emphasis on concrete and natural fermentation. Ageing lasts approximately 18 months and deliberately limits the impact of oak: only around 20% of the wine matures in barrels, with most of the volume aged in large oak vessels, including 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000-litre vats. This approach explains PSI's fresher, less oak-driven character compared with many Ribera del Duero reds.
After tasting the finished bottled wine, Wine Advocate awarded PSI 2022 94/100. Luis Gutiérrez highlighted its floral, elegant and precise character, fine tannins and impressive freshness despite the warm vintage, describing 2022 as one of the finest editions of PSI to date.
Serve at around 16°C. PSI 2022 pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled beef, Iberian pork, duck, game, slow-cooked dishes and mature cheeses. Opening or decanting for around one hour will help it show its full aromatic range. Already approachable, it should develop comfortably into the early 2030s.
PSI should not be viewed simply as a “little Pingus”: it is a project in its own right. The 2022 is particularly compelling because it combines the warmth and ripeness of the vintage with remarkable freshness and tannic finesse. It is an excellent introduction to Peter Sisseck's philosophy in a more immediate and less oak-driven style than Flor de Pingus or Pingus.

PSI is not the second wine of Flor de Pingus. It is a separate project based on old vineyards farmed by growers throughout Ribera del Duero. PSI emphasises fruit, freshness and restrained oak. Flor de Pingus is generally more concentrated and profound, with greater long-term ageing potential.
Yes. It is arguably the most accessible way to understand his approach to Tinto Fino: precise fruit, freshness, fine tannins and controlled oak influence. It should not, however, be considered a simplified version of Pingus, as PSI has its own vineyard sources and philosophy.
2022 was a very hot, dry year, yet the wine avoids the heaviness that might be expected from such conditions. Careful fruit selection preserved freshness and precision. Wine Advocate considers it one of the most accomplished editions of PSI and awarded it 94/100.
Both options are possible. Fine tannins and expressive fruit make it enjoyable already, particularly after aeration. Cellaring into the early 2030s should allow the fruit to soften while developing more complex herbal, spicy and savoury nuances.
Decanting for around one hour is worthwhile when drinking it young. This helps the fruit and floral character open up without requiring the extended aeration sometimes needed by the more concentrated wines of the estate.
No, and this is one of its defining features. Only around 20% of the wine is matured in barrels, while most ages in large oak vessels. Oak therefore supports rather than dominates the fruit, contributing to PSI's fresh and highly drinkable style.
