Domaine Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot 2024 is a broad, structured Chardonnay sourced from three complementary sectors within Morgeot: Les Fairendes, Les Petits Clos and Les Brussonnes. The 2024 combines white fruit, citrus and floral nuances with a fleshy, deep and energetic palate. More generous than some of the Premiers Crus higher on the slope, it nevertheless retains the precision and tension that define Thomas Morey's white wines.
Colour: bright lemon yellow with golden highlights.
Nose: white-fleshed fruit, peach, flowers and citrus accompanied by smoky nuances, subtle herbal notes and discreet oak influence.
Palate: broad and fleshy, with impressive volume and genuine power. Ripe orange and lemon peel bring freshness and gentle bitterness, while mineral tension balances the wine's richness. The persistent, still slightly austere finish suggests a wine that will benefit from bottle age.
Thomas Morey's Morgeot combines fruit from Les Fairendes, Les Petits Clos and Les Brussonnes, covering approximately 0.70 hectare in total. In the 2024 blend, Les Fairendes accounts for 50%, Les Petits Clos 35% and Les Brussonnes 15%. Combining these different sites allows the domaine to balance depth, richness and tension.
The historic vines in Les Fairendes were planted partly in 1964 and partly in 1974. Les Brussonnes was planted in 1986 and became part of the Morgeot cuvée from the 2005 vintage onwards. The soils also differ: Les Brussonnes has relatively shallow, free-draining soils over bedrock, while Les Fairendes is deeper and characterised by rich red clay.
Located in the southern part of Chassagne-Montrachet, Morgeot generally produces broader, fleshier Chardonnay than sites higher up the limestone slope. Thomas Morey's interpretation nevertheless retains considerable freshness: rich fruit is balanced by citrus, gentle bitterness and mineral tension, preventing the wine from feeling heavy.
The domaine's Chardonnays are traditionally vinified before being matured on very fine lees in standard barrels and 350-litre casks. Extended time in tank follows before bottling after approximately 16 to 18 months. This approach gradually integrates the maturation while preserving the identity of each terroir.
Jasper Morris: 90-93/100 – Burghound: 90/100. Both reviews highlight the substance, power and character of the 2024 while noting that it requires additional time to gain depth and harmony. Jasper Morris recommends waiting until around 2030 before entering its main drinking window.
Serve Morgeot 2024 at around 12-13°C. Its depth suits gastronomic dishes such as Bresse chicken in cream sauce, sweetbreads, grilled salmon, turbot, lobster or scallops. It can be explored young with sufficient aeration, although several years of cellaring should prove rewarding.
Among Thomas Morey's Premier Crus, Morgeot is particularly appealing when you are looking for greater volume and texture without sacrificing freshness. The 2024 remains youthful and slightly austere on the finish, so several years in the cellar should allow its generous substance and mineral tension to integrate. We would ideally begin opening bottles towards the end of the decade.

Yes, although the 2024 will clearly benefit from additional time. Its generous substance is already evident, but the finish remains slightly austere and the wine needs to gain further harmony. Jasper Morris suggests a drinking window beginning around 2030, so a bottle opened young should be given plenty of air.
Morgeot encompasses a large group of individual climats and lieux-dits. Thomas Morey combines Les Fairendes, Les Petits Clos and Les Brussonnes. Their contrasting characteristics are complementary, with some providing greater depth and clay influence while others contribute a more free-draining, energetic character.
Both are Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru wines, but their personalities differ. Morgeot generally provides greater volume, flesh and power, while Les Baudines, situated higher on the slope near the forest, offers a straighter, fresher and more citrus-driven expression. The choice is therefore largely stylistic rather than simply qualitative.
In 2024, Les Macherelles shows a particularly attractive balance between tension and roundness, with citrus and subtle pastry notes. Morgeot has greater weight and character, with fleshy texture, ripe citrus and a slightly austere youthful finish. It is likely to reward greater patience.
When drinking it very young, some aeration is advisable. We would favour opening the bottle 30 to 60 minutes before serving and using generous glasses rather than prolonged decanting. With several years of bottle age, the wine should naturally become more expressive.
The 2024 has the structure required for cellaring. Jasper Morris suggests beginning to drink it around 2030. Under good storage conditions, development over approximately a decade is entirely consistent with the substance and balance of this Premier Cru.
