Côte-Rôtie "Mes Grands Lieux" 2015 is the latest creation from Domaine Stéphane Ogier.
It is a Rhône Valley red wine produced by Stéphane Ogier in the Côte-Rôtie appellation.
This cuvée is a blend of 11 lieux-dits: Lancement 17% - Leyat 15% - Montmain 10% - La Viallière 10% - But-de-Mont 9% - Le Champon 9% - Côte Bodin 7% - Cognet 7% - Fongeant 6% - Bertholon 5% - Côte Rozier 5%. It comes from 74% of Côte Brune terroir (mica schist) and 26% of Côte Blonde terroir (granite and gneiss).
Vinified with 32% whole clusters and aged for 20 months in 228-liter barrels, followed by 10 years of cellaring at the estate, this is an exceptional Côte-Rôtie.
The birth of this cuvée is the result of detailed plot-by-plot work initiated years ago by Stéphane and his team. Vinified and aged in demi-muids like all the estate's single-vineyard wines, Mes Grands Lieux captures the true essence of these slopes; it is a pure expression of Côte-Rôtie, a Syrah in its finest form.
Côte-Rôtie "Mes Grands Lieux" - Vintage 2015
The 2015 vintage was marked by ideal weather conditions: a mild, rainy winter that replenished soil water reserves, a warm spring that encouraged early and even flowering, and a hot summer that ensured optimal concentration of the grapes. Mid-August rains helped avoid water stress, followed by sunny days and cleansing winds that preserved perfect grape health.
Tasting notes:
Appearance: ripe aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry with floral violet notes;
Nose: sweet spices enhance an intense and complex bouquet.
Palate: the attack is full, smooth and velvety, with a beautiful ripe and coated tannic structure.
The overall balance—between power and freshness—gives the wine great length.
12bouteilles' tip: Serve slightly chilled around 16°C. It will be delicious with grilled meats—try it with a garlic and rosemary leg of lamb, a true delight!
Among Stéphane Ogier’s wines, you might also enjoy his Côtes du Rhône "Le Temps est Venu", his Saint Joseph "Le Passage", in Côte-Rôtie "Mon Village" and "La Belle Hélène", his white wine in "La Combe de Malleval", and his IGP Méditerranée "La Rosine"
