In this 2022 vintage, Laurent Roumier’s Chambolle-Musigny stands out as a classic from the Côte de Nuits in a very successful year. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: a bright ruby red of lovely intensity, perfectly reflecting the finesse of Pinot Noir.
The Nose: delicate and floral, featuring violet and red berry aromas that, with aeration, evolve toward undergrowth, truffle, and even some animal nuances.
The Palate: silk and elegance define this wine, supported by a fine, silky tannic structure. Its density is remarkable—close to a Premier Cru—and the long, fruity finish suggests excellent aging potential (10 years or more).
This 2022 vintage from Domaine Laurent Roumier comes from five parcels around the village of Chambolle-Musigny, totaling 1.5 hectares averaging 35 years old—one of which exceeds 50 years. The vines, cultivated sustainably, benefit from a stony, ideally exposed terroir adjacent to the famous Musigny Grand Cru. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, this wine undergoes traditional vinification (punch-downs, pump-overs, without cold pre-fermentation maceration), followed by 15 to 18 months of aging in oak barrels.
Elegantly crafted, this cuvée highlights the understated yet renowned expertise of Laurent Roumier. True to his family’s tradition, he works vines located on exceptional terroirs across several flagship appellations of the Côte de Nuits (Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Vougeot, Bonnes-Mares). It is a domaine well worth discovering, both for its “ready to drink” wines and for its long-aging cuvées.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A superb Chambolle-Musigny, all lace and finesse. Serve around 15°C, after a brief aeration. It pairs beautifully with roast guinea fowl, poultry in cream sauce, or a turkey cutlet. With a decade’s worth of aging potential, it will also gain in complexity over time.
