Champin Le Seigneur by Jean-Michel Gérin is one of the estate’s emblematic cuvées, a true bridge between the rigor of great Côte-Rôtie wines and the desire to offer something immediately approachable. Made predominantly from Syrah with a touch of Viognier, it tells the story of steep granite and schist slopes, carefully tended by Gérin with the precision of a craftsman.
The 2023 vintage, marked by a balanced yet contrasting climate, delivered perfectly ripe grapes combining richness and freshness.
Vinification, true to the house style, includes hand-harvesting, gentle extraction, and partial aging in oak barrels to preserve the clarity of the fruit while adding subtle layers of complexity.
A perfect Côte-Rôtie, always incredibly elegant, it's one of the appellation's best value-for-money wines.
This cuvée is composed of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier, with 50% aged in new French oak barrels. It comes from several terroirs mainly located in the north of the appellation.
Tasting notes of the 2023 vintage
The robe shows a deep red with purple highlights.
The nose is immediately expressive, bursting with ripe black fruits—blackberry, blackcurrant—followed by floral nuances of violet and a spicy touch of black pepper and clove. With aeration, smoky undertones and delicate balsamic hints emerge.
On the palate, the attack is broad and velvety. The concentrated yet balanced texture highlights generous fruit, supported by fine and elegant tannins. Flavors unfold gracefully, blending black fruits, sweet spices, and a subtle mineral freshness. The finish is long and persistent, perfectly combining power and elegance, leaving a savory impression of ripe fruit and spice.
12bouteilles advice: one of our favorite Côte-Rôtie wines from the sublime 2023 vintage, impressive for its length, power and balance. Perfect with game, red meat and poultry.
About the estate: Jean Michel Gérin comes from a winemaking family that has been established in Côte Rôtie for 6 generations. He is one of the Rhône's great names that we are proud to distribute. His Côte-Rôtie and Saint Joseph wines are all among the most precise and finely-crafted in the Rhône Valley.
