Génot-Boulanger: Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2018 bio
Burgundy - Corton-Charlemagne - Grand Cru - White Wine -2018 marks the first certified organic vintage for Domaine Génot-Boulanger. It is also a productive, balanced year of great quality. A warm vintage, but one that was regularly watered and offered magnificent fruit, with beautiful maturities and perfectly formed. The white wines are expressive, opulent, greedy but also of great finesse.
This organic Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2018 from Domaine Génot-Boulanger comes from a parcel of Chardonnay planted mostly in 1940 for a total area of 0.29 hectares with a beautiful southwest exposure. The vines are planted on an ideal geological section (dating back to the Jurassic period); a shallow soil, composed of silico-limestone marl, friable rocks, a poor and very stony soil.
An exceptional vintage matured for 12 months in barrels, to be then sub-drawn and transferred to vats to conclude the maturation with 6 additional months. The Domaine Génot-Boulanger wishes to vinify its wines by intervening as little as possible to let this exceptional terroir express itself, all the more so in this great year. Thus, no exogenous yeast is used to start the fermentations, sulfiting only at the end of the vinification, very light settling, no fining or filtration.
Tasting comments:
The robe: Pale gold with subtle green highlights
The nose: expressive, ripe white and yellow fruit (nectarine, peach, apricot), some notes of sweet spices and even ginger at the end of the mouth
The palate: full-bodied, well-balanced, complex, fat/acidity
The advice of 12bouteilles:
A great vintage absolutely divine which will sublimate a noble fish, or a white meat, see even in accompaniment of a matured cheese. Can be apprehended in its youth, but this Corton-Charlemagne deserves to wait a few more years to deliver us all its complexity.
