The year 2017 is a beautiful vintage for this Burgundian Grand Cru. Marked by very favorable weather conditions, the fruit was harvested at maturity, with nice yields. A vintage full of fruit and freshness.

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 from Domaine Génot-Boulanger is a sumptuous vintage, on one of Burgundy's most famous parcels. It comes from a plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1986, with a surface area of 0.43 hectares. A vineyard planted on a brown soil on limestone and clayey pebbles dating from the Jurassic era. The rows are 150 meters long and cross three different types of soils, bringing a lot of complexity to the wine.

The maturation of this Grand Cru is done in two stages, with first a 12 months passage in oak barrels and finally a 6 months maturation in vats. A long fermentation, a soft extraction, no fining or filtration; this is how Domaine Génot-Boulanger vinifies this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru -in the least interventionist way possible- with the objective of letting it express the natural character of the terroir and the vintage.

Tasting notes:

The robe: deep garnet with ruby reflections

The nose: a lot of complexity, fruity notes (blackcurrant bud, raspberry), floral, but also anise and licorice... sublime

The palate: opulent, fleshy, harmonious, with an extreme finesse

The advice of 12bouteilles: 

A wine that can be enjoyed within the next five years if you like "young" and crisp Pinot, however this vintage is a great wine for aging that deserves a few more years. A magnificent wine to accompany a nice piece of beef or a game.
