In the Pommard appellation, the 2017 vintage is under the sign of precocity. Indeed, marked by almost summer temperatures that occurred very early in the season, the ripening of the grapes has thus shifted the date of the harvest. Thanks to these particular climatic conditions, the year 2017 reveals very beautiful yields of Pinot Noir with beautiful colors, superb concentrations and silky tannins.
This Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc 2017 from Domaine Génot-Boulanger comes from a plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1996, with a total area of 0.33 hectares. The parcel takes its name from the soil, which has a high concentration of limestone and clay giving it its white color. It is located at the limit of the road of the Grands Crus at the entrance of the village of Pommard and in the extension of the famous climate of "Grands Epenots".
The maturing of this first growth is done in two operations, with in a first time, a passage of 12 months in oak barrels and in a second time, a maturing of 6 months in tanks. The Domaine Génot-Boulanger's aim is to let the natural character of the terroir and the vintage express itself. This is why this Mercurey is vinified in the least interventionist way possible (a long fermentation, a soft extraction with 1 to 2 punchings down maximum, no use of fining yeast, no filtration).
