It was the grandfather of the current owner, Sébastien Le Ber, who made his fortune in gold mining in Mexico (François-Joseph Fournier), who bought this island and planted 170 hectares of vines there. to give it as a gift to his young wife in 1910. When she died, the property was shared between four of their six children and it was Sébastien Le Ber's parents who then inherited the vineyard. The estate lives on the plains of Notre-Dame and Brégançonnet. The vineyards and olive trees of the island are protected from salt erosion and hot weather. The vineyard is full of sunshine, taking its iconic color from the shale spruce bark, which is covered with clay, and the cool of the night contrasts with the dew. A little over thirty of the hectares of land are now devoted to vines. Roses and whites are born between land and sea. Carefully selected, the traditional Mediterranean grape varieties express all the uniqueness and insularity of the place. They have the seal of commitment, create wines with unique southern flavors. Sunny and windy wine, breathing the freshness and power of the place and the personality. Good dry and stony soil, resistant to wind, soaked in the sun, Grenache, brings a generous mixture to remind people of the sweetness of local life. The Mourvèdre likes to look at the sea, where he defends all his roles and adds a few grains of spices. The white-fleshed fruits of Cinsault combine with the freshness and crunchiness of Syrah. As for tibouren, authentic Provencal, it is at home here, deploying its nobility on these schist soils. Rolle, finally, goes it alone and reigns over the production of white wines. Here it releases all its southern accents in a fresh and saline resonance. Certified organic since 2015 and acquired in 2017 by Chanel, the Domaine de l'Ile now covers 34 hectares in terraces planted with traditional Mediterranean grape varieties of quality (Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, etc.). They produce around 1,200 hectoliters of Côtes-de-Provence.
