In this 2022 vintage, Domaine André Brunel’s “Cuvée Réservée” already stands out as one of the property’s notable successes in a very promising year. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: deep ruby red, with slightly violet hues in its youth.
The Nose: classically styled, featuring intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits—cherry, blackberry, and plum—accented by a spicy touch and a hint of garrigue.
The Palate: the entry is ample and silky thanks to already very refined tannins. You’ll sense a lovely balance of power and freshness that lends a pleasing roundness on the palate. Over time (after about five years in the cellar), leather and undergrowth notes will emerge, adding even more complexity and elegance.
This 2022 vintage of Domaine André Brunel “Cuvée Réservée” is made from a blend of Grenache Noir (40%), Syrah (40%), and Mourvèdre (20%). The vines, around 40 years old, are hand-harvested and fully destemmed. A four-week maceration with daily pump-overs extracts both color and structure, followed by at least 12 months of aging in tanks—no oak barrels are used—to preserve the purity of fruit and the terroir’s typicity.
Elegantly crafted, the Cuvée Réservée exemplifies the estate’s expertise through carefully selected parcels: Grenache from sandy soils contributes roundness and a rich fruit character, while Syrah planted on rolled pebbles provides power and structure. Younger than those used for the “Les Cailloux” cuvée, these vines yield a wine that is charming in its youth yet offers solid aging potential of up to 10 years.
After five years of cellaring, this cuvée will develop notes of leather and undergrowth, gaining depth and complexity—an ideal complement to red meats and game dishes, enhancing all their flavors.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A superb wine from the southern Rhône Valley by Domaine André Brunel. Open the bottle one to two hours before serving to fully release its aromatic profile, and enjoy it alongside a fine cut of beef or a game stew. It will easily keep for 10 years in the cellar, developing more pronounced complexity over time!
