Châteauneuf-du-Pape: ‘Les Cailloux’ red 2022 is a cuvée produced by Domaine André Brunel. An exceptional cuvée, it takes its name from the countless rolled pebbles found in the vines, which are the source of the estate's name. Made up of numerous parcels, each brings its own characteristics and gives the wine its incredible complexity. Made from Grenache (70%), Mourvèdre (17%), Syrah (10%) and Cinsault (3%), this 2022 vintage ranks alongside the great vintages of the appellation, such as 2010 and 2016, for its aromatic complexity and ageing potential.
Tasting notes :
Colour: ruby red
Nose: dominant aromas of red fruit, enhanced by a woody note
Palate: Notes of red and black fruit, with smooth, elegant tannins. Long on the palate, with notes of garrigue and spices.
12bouteilles advice: This wine can be drunk young to benefit from the freshness of the red fruit provided by the Grenache. However, its potential will only begin to express itself after a minimum of 5 years' cellaring. Serve at a temperature of 15°C with red meat or game.
Domaine André Brunel is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's elite. Better known abroad than in France, the vineyard called ‘Les Cailloux’ is spread over three appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape (21ha), Côtes-du-Rhône (40ha) & Vin de pays du Vaucluse (30ha). Most of the red wines are made from Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. The white wines are made from Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Since February 2022, André Brunel's son Fabrice has been at the helm of the estate, producing racy wines full of minerality and refinement.
