Delas : Côte Rôtie 2016 - Seigneur de Maugiron

The Côte Rôtie 2016 Seigneur de Maugiron is a great wine from Maison Delas. This wine comes from vineyards located on the Brune and Blonde coasts of the appellation. The vineyard extends over three communes, Saint Cyr sur Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons, on the right bank of the Rhône, in the Rhône department. This vintage is a tribute to the lord of Maugiron who shared his property between his two daughters, one brown and the other blonde, hence the names given to the wines, "Côte Brune" and "Côte Blonde".
The grapes coming into the "Seigneur de Maugiron" vintage are hand-made, terroir by terroir, at optimum maturity. Vinification is traditionally conducted in open concrete vats. Pigeages and pumping over are done daily for ten days. The total duration of vatting can reach twenty days.
The aging is conducted entirely in barrels for 14 months in 50% in new oak barrels, 50% in 1 year old barrels.
Tasting note:
In the eye, the dress is very dark purple. On the nose, the Côte-Rôtie "Lord of Maugiron", powerful and fine, is marked by aromas of cassis, gooseberry and liquorice supported by a slight woody. This wine, with a tight tannic structure, has a nice balance and a silky texture. It combines a beautiful concentration with great finesse.
A great wine rated 90-93/100 by Robert Parker
The aromatic 2016 Cote Rotie Seigneur de Maugiron lacks the tannic backbone of the La Landonne, but it will be approachable on release. Violet, herb, black olive and tar notes add complexity to the ripe raspberry fruit in this medium to full-bodied wine that's already supple and seductive.
The advice of 12bouteilles : All the finesse of the great wines of Côte Rôtie in a cuvée resulting from a blend of parcels of Côtes brown and blonde. Meat, roast beef, waterfowl, truffles, stews. It is recommended to open the bottle one to three hours before consumption, and to decant if the guard has exceeded the five year mark.
