Château Léoville Poyferré 2016
This is one of our favorites in this great vintage, one of the most remarkable bottles of Saint Julien and Medoc in general. A magnificent 2nd Classified Growth!
The robe is purple garnet and deep.
the nose is dominated by the fruits with hints of cassis, violet, dark chocolate and menthol.
The palate is full and long, the palate is loaded with layers of very intense black fruit beautifully supported by very firm, ripe tannins and a harmonious freshness.
The length is impressive, a marvel!
The finish reveals a very large aromatic persistence worthy of a very great vintage Château Léoville Poyferré
The 2016 vintage comes from an assemblage: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc
Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (230) April 2017
The 2016 Leoville-Poyferre is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Didier Cuvelier told me that color leeched out naturally and he conducted an 8 day pre-fermentation maceration. Matured in 80% new oak with some malolactic in barrel, it has a typical bouquet for this estate with opulent but neatly controlled, billowing scents of black cherries, black plum, crème de cassis and violets. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine tannin, a killer line of acidity and perhaps one of the most harmonious Poyferré that I have encountered at this juncture. It just glides across the mouth and slips down the throat with consummate ease. Superb.
12bouteilles tip: An extraordinary vintage from Château Léoville Poyferre, which is close to perfection for us. Do not hesitate for a second if you are a fan of Saint Julien it's a magic bottle. Potential of guard: 10 years and more, serve it after 1h in carafe.
