The history of Château d’Armailhac begins in 1680 when two brothers, Dominique and Guilhem Armailhacq, buy parcels of vines located northwest of Pauillac, Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur, known as the Prince of Vines In 1750, the vineyards covered 15 to 16 hectares at the end of the eighteenth century, Armailhacq renamed the vineyard Mouton d’Armailhacq, which reaches some 52 hectares scattered between Brane-Mouton in the North and Pibran in the South. thanks to various techniques such as the setting, racking, sterilization of the barrels and the collage, the quality of sheep of Armailhacq improves greatly, to the point that the wines are sold twice more expensive than the neighboring productions, However, since 1933, when Baron Philippe de Rothschild became definitively owner, the history of Château d’Armailhac is inseparable from that of Château Mouton Rothschild. vineyard, his daughter Baroness Philippine decides to return to Mouton d’Armailhacq its original identity, under the name “Château d’Armailhac“. Today, the vineyard of Château d’Armailhac, classified since 1855 as Mouton d’Armailhacq, covers 70 hectares north of Pauillac. The vineyard cultivates the traditional grape varieties of the Médoc: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 46 years, of which 20% of its parcels were planted in 1890. The gravel rest on a clay-limestone soil, which gives the wines of Château d’Armailhac their characteristic finesse and elegance. The wines of Château d’Armailhac are known as fine, elegant but also powerful and voluminous by their tannins. These are wines of guard.
