Bodega Contador : Contador 2010
Contador 2010 is a red wine from the Bodega Contador, bodega star of the Rioja in Spain. This vintage is made from Tempranillo (94%), the main varietal of the region, and Red Grenache (6%). The must was fermented in oak barrels and aged 19 months in French oak barrels. Already at its peak, the wine has great aging potential, it is recommended to taste it between 2018 and 2038.
It's up to you to enjoy it young or in a few years.
Contador 2010 has a purple-red color with a high and luminous intensity. The nose of mature red and black fruits reveals notes of balsamic and aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender and fennel). It also has a marked mineral character with fine wood notes and well integrated. On the palate, it is fine and powerful. It shows a great balance between fruit and oak. The final is long and intense.
This absolutely exceptional wine has twice been awarded 100/100 by the famous American critic Rober Parker, for the 2004 and 2005 vintages.
This 2010 vintage got the excellent grade of 98/100, Parker described it as "The stallion of Rioja ... Exceptional bouquet ... Dense and ample ... It definitely combines power and elegance".
The advice of 12bouteilles: A wonderful wine to open and decant 2 hours before. It deserves to be associated with the most beautiful piece of meat that you can find.
