Château de la Chaize: Heritage, Innovation and Beaujolais Excellence
A timeless estate blending history and sustainability
Château de la Chaize, located in the heart of the Beaujolais region, is one of France’s oldest and most iconic wine estates. Established in 1676 by François de la Chaize d’Aix, the estate showcases classical French design through the architecture of François Mansart and the gardens of André Le Nôtre. Listed as a French Historic Monument, the château stands as a symbol of cultural heritage and viticultural prestige.
In 2017, the estate entered a new chapter under the leadership of Christophe Gruy. His goal was to preserve the château’s grandeur while embracing modern and sustainable viticulture. Extensive renovations were carried out across both the estate and its vineyards, marking a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and excellence.
Now transitioning to organic agriculture, Château de la Chaize cultivates over 100 hectares of vines on granite-rich soils ideal for Gamay. Manual harvesting, carbonic maceration, and aging in oak barrels are the foundations of a vinification process that balances tradition and innovation, yielding wines of finesse, authenticity and character.
Iconic crus expressing the best of Beaujolais terroirs
Château de la Chaize is best known for its Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly crus, both expressions of the Gamay grape. The Brouilly is fresh and vibrant, with red fruit aromas like cherry and raspberry. It is an excellent match for white meats, charcuterie or vegetarian dishes, and is appreciated for its approachable yet refined profile.
Côte de Brouilly offers more structure and aromatic complexity. Thanks to higher altitudes and mineral-rich soils, it reveals flavors of black fruits, floral notes and subtle spices. It pairs beautifully with red meats, slow-cooked dishes and mature cheeses, making it a favorite among connoisseurs seeking depth and aging potential.
The estate also produces limited-edition, single-vineyard cuvées that highlight the diversity of its granite terroirs. These wines showcase precision winemaking and the nuanced expression of place, catering to wine lovers in search of unique, high-quality bottles.
Awarded and acclaimed for their consistent excellence, the wines of Château de la Chaize are now available through 12bouteilles.com, offering convenient access to some of the finest crus of Beaujolais directly from your home.
