In 1996, Miguel Viu Manent dreamed of developing his own wines, his desire became a reality when he acquired a winery and winery in the Colchagua Valley, the San Carlos de Cunaco estate, whose vineyards date back to the middle of the nineteenth century. This traditional vineyard has 150 hectares of French vineyards, noble and old, in addition to a winery and an owner’s house. From this moment, the wines elaborated at the Castle are sold to a large extent in Vinos Viu. In the early 1990s, Viu Manent completely modernized its production tool, in order to compete with export markets. Today 95% of its production is exported to more than 30 different countries. Since then, Viu Manent has three vineyards, all located in the OC of Colchagua Valley. The one in San Carlos, in the heart of the Colchagua Valley, is one of the oldest in Chile, the other two, La Capilla and El Olivar Alto are located in the Peralillo region. In Chile, Viu Manent was one of the pioneers in the search for a good match between grape varieties and vineyards. The estate supplements its supplies with purchases of white grapes (Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay) in cooler valleys such as Leyda and Casablanca.
