Château Trotanoy was founded in the 18th century by the Giraud family, royal broker of Libourne. At that time, the vineyard was a mixture of heavy clay and pebbles, so it was difficult to cultivate, so people knew it as "Too Bored", and Gillard wisely changed it to "Trotanoy". The wine was one of the best Pomerol wines in the 19th century, and the winery then grew to 25 hectares. Then, because of the various crises which inherit and affect the wine industry, its perimeter will shrink. The property was handed over to the Giraud family after World War II and was acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953. It is now run by Jean-Pierre's son, Christian Moueix, assisted by his son Edouard.
This 7.2 hectare vineyard is located in the most exposed area of the Pomerol plateau, near Vieux Château Certan and Petrus, its soil is distributed over the soil, divided into gravel, clay and deep black clay over sub- soil with iron. The grape varieties are made up of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The average age of the vines is 35 years, partly withstood the severe frost of 1956, and the planting density is 6,200 grapes per hectare. Agriculture is carried out in a very traditional way, with regular crops, thinnings and peels.
