Château Grand Mayne: The Elegance of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
A family-run estate rooted in a remarkable terroir
Château Grand Mayne stands as a benchmark in the world of Saint-Émilion wines. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé, the estate has been owned by the Nony family since 1934. Nestled on the limestone plateau of the appellation, the 19-hectare vineyard benefits from natural drainage and excellent sun exposure, key elements for optimal ripening and terroir expression.
Now managed by Jean-Antoine and Damien Nony, the estate masterfully balances time-honored tradition with technical innovation. The southwest-facing vines are ideally placed to capture the warmth and light of the Bordeaux climate, enhancing grape concentration and aromatic depth.
The vineyard is predominantly planted with Merlot (80%), known for its smooth texture and dark fruit flavors, complemented by Cabernet Franc (20%) that contributes freshness, spice, and aging potential. This blend produces wines of great harmony, elegance, and depth.
Winemaking excellence and expressive wines
The estate’s winemaking philosophy is shaped by the expertise of acclaimed oenologist Michel Rolland. From hand-harvesting to careful aging in oak barrels, each step is meticulously controlled to enhance the quality and identity of the wines.
Château Grand Mayne wines display rich aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry, intertwined with hints of spice, toasted oak, and, over time, earthy notes like truffle. On the palate, they are powerful yet refined, offering a velvety mouthfeel and firm but well-integrated tannins that promise long aging.
The Grand Vin showcases the full potential of the terroir, while the second label, Les Plantes du Mayne, offers a more approachable style, made from the estate’s younger vines. Both wines are excellent food companions, pairing beautifully with grilled meats, game dishes, truffle-based recipes, or mature cheeses.
These exceptional wines are available on 12bouteilles, a trusted destination for premium Bordeaux selections.
