Château Cap de Mourlin
Château Cap de Mourlin: A Prestigious Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
A historic family estate rooted in tradition and precision
Located in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Cap de Mourlin is a benchmark among Bordeaux's Grand Cru Classé wines. Spanning 14 hectares of clay-limestone soils, the estate has been under the stewardship of the CapdeMourlin family for over four centuries. This continuity has fostered a deep connection to the land and a relentless pursuit of quality. Thanks to major renovations led by Jacques CapdeMourlin, the estate combines traditional savoir-faire with state-of-the-art vinification facilities.
The vineyard is cultivated with sustainable farming practices and features an average vine age of 34 years. The grape composition – 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon – is managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis to preserve the integrity of the fruit and highlight the nuances of each plot. Merlot provides lush red fruit and roundness, Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift and elegance, while Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and longevity to the blend.
The north-facing slopes of the estate, near Montagne, offer optimal sun exposure and drainage, enhancing the expression of the terroir. This distinctive location yields wines of depth, balance, and exceptional aromatic complexity, making Château Cap de Mourlin a standout reference within Saint-Émilion’s elite Grand Cru Classé category.
A powerful and refined wine with aging potential
Château Cap de Mourlin boasts a deep ruby robe with garnet reflections, a bouquet rich in blackberries, cassis, spices, and a refined oak touch. On the palate, it is opulent yet balanced, with velvety tannins and an impressively long finish. Aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, the wine develops layers of vanilla, roasted notes, and a subtle smokiness that enriches its profile over time.
It pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, stews, game, or aged cheeses. Ideal serving temperature is between 16°C and 18°C, with light aeration to unlock its full aromatic expression. Featured on 12bouteilles, the 2015, 2016, and 2018 vintages are particularly noteworthy for their depth, harmony, and long aging potential — up to 20 years in optimal cellar conditions.
