Château Balestard La Tonnelle is a prestigious Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, renowned for its deep connection to the region’s noble terroirs. The 10.6-hectare vineyard lies on prime clay-limestone soils and is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average vine age of 33 years ensures optimal concentration and aromatic depth in the grapes.
Under the guidance of acclaimed oenologist Michel Rolland, the winemaking process blends modern precision with traditional techniques. Aging in French oak barrels enhances the structure and adds elegance and complexity to the final wine. The estate also produces a second label, Chanoine de Balestard, offering a more approachable expression of the vineyard’s identity.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep purple color with garnet hues, hinting at its aging potential. The bouquet is rich and expressive, revealing dark fruits like black cherry and plum, alongside spices, licorice, toasted wood, and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with silky tannins and a vibrant freshness. Merlot offers roundness and charm, while the Cabernets bring backbone and layered complexity.
