Located on the famed limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, Château Pavie Macquin stands as a true icon of the Right Bank. Recognized as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B, this 15-hectare estate has earned acclaim for its deep, elegant, and age-worthy wines. Founded in the 19th century by Albert Macquin—renowned for introducing grafting techniques that helped save Bordeaux vineyards—the estate remains today in the hands of his descendants, the Corre family.
With the technical expertise of oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, the vineyard benefits from ideal clay-limestone soils, known for producing wines of depth and freshness. The grape varieties reflect the classic Saint-Émilion blend: Merlot (70%) provides richness and suppleness, Cabernet Franc (25%) adds finesse and aromatic lift, while Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) delivers structure and aging potential.
The estate’s meticulous vinification process emphasizes precision and respect for each vintage’s character. Every step, from hand-harvesting to barrel aging, is designed to showcase the full expression of terroir.
On the palate, Château Pavie Macquin reveals a deep garnet hue and a powerful nose of black fruit, licorice, and subtle spices. The mouthfeel is rich yet balanced, with silky tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with red meats, game dishes, and mature cheeses, while its cellaring potential of up to 25 years allows for added complexity and harmony over time.
Among the most acclaimed vintages, the 2016 offers elegance and aromatic precision, while the 2018 stands out for its power and aging promise. Carefully selected vintages of Château Pavie Macquin are available at 12bouteilles, for discerning wine lovers seeking refined, long-lived Bordeaux wines.
