Château du Tertre: The Grand Cru Classé Embodying Margaux's Harmony

A historic estate shaped by an exceptional terroir

Nestled in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château du Tertre is a distinguished estate classified as a 5th Grand Cru in 1855. It spans 52 hectares in a single continuous block—a rare configuration in the Médoc. The vineyard lies atop a gently sloping gravel outcrop with southwest exposure, providing optimal sun and drainage conditions for grape ripening. This unique terroir produces wines renowned for their balance, finesse, and aromatic purity.

The estate’s revival began in 1997 when Dutch entrepreneur Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the property. He undertook an ambitious modernization plan, restoring historic buildings, revamping vineyard management, and implementing cutting-edge winemaking techniques. Today, Château du Tertre practices environmentally conscious viticulture, integrating cover crops, reduced chemical use, and precise parcel-level vinification to enhance terroir expression and sustainability.

Through its refined style and sustainable philosophy, the estate has cemented its status as one of Margaux’s most promising Grands Crus. Each wine produced here reflects the essence of the Médoc: structured yet elegant, powerful yet graceful. A signature Grand Vin and a second label with finesse

Château du Tertre’s Grand Vin is a masterful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with each variety bringing unique character. Cabernet Sauvignon adds depth and structure, Merlot contributes softness and roundness, Cabernet Franc enhances freshness and complexity, while Petit Verdot provides a touch of spice and vibrant color. The result is a layered and harmonious wine, capable of evolving beautifully over time.

On the other hand, Les Hauts du Tertre, the estate’s second label, is made from younger vines and lots not selected for the Grand Vin.
