Château Dauzac: A Historic Margaux Estate Reborn Through Innovation

Centuries of legacy, guided by vision and excellence

Located in the prestigious Margaux appellation of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Dauzac was classified as a 5th Growth in the historic 1855 Classification. With origins dating back centuries, the estate has long stood as a symbol of Bordeaux winemaking heritage. Since 1992, under the ownership of MAIF, a new chapter of revitalization began with an emphasis on quality, authenticity, and innovation. The appointment of Laurent Fortin as general manager in 2013 marked a decisive shift in the estate’s trajectory.

Fortin’s leadership has brought a modern, thoughtful approach to the estate. His strategy integrates sustainable viticulture, technical precision, and a profound respect for nature. With initiatives such as parcel selection, use of native yeasts, amphora aging, and reduced intervention, Château Dauzac now stands at the forefront of eco-conscious winemaking in Margaux. The vineyard's prime location near the Gironde estuary, with deep gravel soils and optimal sun exposure, provides the ideal conditions to craft wines that reflect finesse, complexity, and purity.

Each vintage is meticulously produced from vine to bottle. The estate cultivates primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a philosophy rooted in living soils and careful vineyard management. From pruning to harvesting, every detail is executed with care, resulting in wines that capture the full expression of their origin. Château Dauzac’s renaissance is not only technical but deeply human, driven by a passion for sharing the emotional and sensory journey that great wines provide.

Two distinct cuvées expressing the soul of Margaux

The estate’s Grand Vin is the ultimate expression of Margaux elegance. Deep and structured, it offers a complex nose of black fruits, violet, subtle spices, and fine oak, supported by silky tannins and refreshing acidity. On the palate, it reveals balance, depth, and a velvety texture, promising excellent aging potential. This wine is crafted with precision and patience, developing gracefully over time to reveal its full aromatic range and noble character. It has earned its place among the finest labels of Margaux for its purity, consistency, and depth.

Alongside this iconic wine, Château Dauzac also produces Aurore de Dauzac, its second label introduced in 2013. Sourced from younger vines and selected plots, Aurore offers a more accessible, fruit-forward profile with supple tannins and bright energy. Designed for early enjoyment, it retains the estate’s signature finesse and is perfect for casual or celebratory occasions. It serves as a compelling entry point into the estate’s world, offering quality and approachability without compromise.
